Alasdair Tooze Associate

Alasdair studied architecture at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, and after working for a number of practices in Glasgow during his year out, he then graduated in 2001.
Alasdair joined Hoskins Architects in as an Architectural Assistant 2002, and qualified as an Architect in 2004. In 2007, Alasdair was invited to become a design studio tutor in the Architecture Department at the University of Strathclyde, which he continues to do to this day.

Alasdair has excellent experience throughout the whole design process: from concept to completion. Through this he is confident and has a record for successfully delivering projects, leading design teams, and liaising with client bodies. His experience covers a wide range of sectors and scales: including bespoke houses and arts heritage developments. Most recently Alasdair developed detailed design proposals for a commercial/office mixed-use development on a sensitive site on the edge of Edinburgh’s New Town, a World Heritage Site.
Alasdair takes the lead role in advising and coordinating specialist surveys, which are a requirement of Conservation Grant Works for a number of our projects. He has a qualification for Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings, and has attended a number of short courses specific to working with stone repairs surveying older buildings. Currently Alasdair is working towards Accreditation in Conservation, and is a member of the SPAB (The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings).

Alasdair’s considered and creative approach along with his attention to detail has been key to the successful delivery of some of the Practice’s Key projects – from The Architecture Gallery and the V&A to The redevelopment of Aberdeen Art Gallery. The Lawlor House, for which Alasdair was Project Architect, won a Scottish Design Award and numerous commendations. He was also one of the Project Architects who lead phases of the Royal Museum Project which won multiple awards, culminating in the Andrew Doolan RIAS Best Building in Scotland Award.
