Bellgrove Masterplan Glasgow, UK

In 2007 Hoskins Architects' masterplan proposals for the former abattoir and market site in the East End of Glasgow set out a vision for a vibrant and sustainable new neighbourhood with a distinct character and identity that would combine the remaining elements of the site’s history with the contemporary language of individually designed buildings and public spaces. The masterplan proposed three distinct areas: a residential area, a mixed use area and an activity zone that would reuse the main market sheds to create a communal space that could be used for a variety of activities. With its excellent public transport links into the City Centre and its proximity to the established community of Dennistoun a unique opportunity was afforded to create an exemplary new model for sustainable city living that would act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the surrounding area, so that it could once again play an important role in the economic and cultural life of Glasgow.
